چکیده

Application of diffuse–interface models (DIM) yields a system of partial differential equations (PDEs) that generally requires a numerical solution. In the analyses of multiphase flows with DIM usually an artificial enlargement of the interface thickness is required for numerical reasons. Replacing the real interface thickness with a numerically acceptable one, while keeping the surface tension constant, can be justified based on the analysis of the equilibrium planar interface, but demands a change in the local part of the free energy. In a non-equilibrium situation, where the interface position and shape evolve with time, we need to know how to change the mobility in order to still model the same physical problem. Here we approach this question by studying the mixing of two immiscible fluids in a lid-driven cavity flow where the interface between the two fluids is stretched roughly linearly with time, before break-up events start. Scaling based on heuristics, where the mobility is taken inversely proportional to the interface thickness, was found to give fairly well results over the period of linear interface stretching for the range of Péclet numbers and viscosity ratios considered when the capillary number is O(10). None of the scalings studied was, however, able to capture the break-up events accurately. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

درماتوفیتوز گسترده در یک بیمار مبتلا به ایکتیوز مادرزادی

Ichthyosis is defined as a group of diseases with keratinization disorder and diffuse scaling with highly variable degree of involvement. According to our knowledge, coincidence of ichthyosis and dermatophytosis, which both are very common disorders, is a very rare event. We report a young man with congenital ichthyosis that histological analysis of his skin biopsies and direct smear revealed P...

Effects of Far- and Near-Field Multiple Earthquakes on the RC SDOF Fragility Curves Using Different First Shock Scaling Methods

Typically, to study the effects of consecutive earthquakes, it is necessary to consider definite intensity levels of the first shock. Methods commonly used to define intensity involve scaling the first shock to a specified maximum interstorey drift. In this study the structure’s predefined elastic spectral acceleration caused by the first shock is also considered for scaling. This study aims to...

Implicational Scaling of Reading Comprehension Construct: Is it Deterministic or Probabilistic?

In English as a Second Language Teaching and Testing situations, it is common to infer about learners’ reading ability based on his or her total score on a reading test. This assumes the unidimensional and reproducible nature of reading items. However, few researches have been conducted to probe the issue through psychometric analyses. In the present study, the IELTS exemplar module C (1994) wa...

Diffractive Interaction and Scaling Violation in pp → π Interaction and GeV Excess in Galactic Diffuse γ-Ray Spectrum of EGRET

We present here a new calculation of the γ-ray spectrum from pp → π in the Galactic ridge environment. The calculation includes the diffractive pp interaction and incorporates the Feynman scaling violation for the first time. Galactic diffuse γ-rays come, predominantly, from π → γγ in the sub-GeV to multi-GeV range. Hunter et al. found, however, an excess in the GeV range (“GeV Excess”) in the ...
